Abortion decline

A New York Times article, from February 2014, reports a decline in abortion rate with American women.  The article reports that abortion rate is at it’s lowest level since 2011.  Researchers say that the decline is partly because of a growing use of “long-term contraceptives like IUD’s.  One author concledes that “anti-abortion laws had only a minimal impact on the number of women obtaining abortions during the study period.”  I find this article interesting because I always wondered why women choose abortion instead of protecting themselves against pregnancy.

Half of children affected by domestic abuse ‘not known to social services’

According to this article, posted on the guardian.com, half the children living in homes where domestic abuse is occuring is not known to social services.  This information is acoording to research done by Co-ordinated Action Against Domestic Violence.  This saddens me because who protects these children when all of this is going on in the home.  More than half these children have behavioral problems and some even start displaying the violent behavior themselves.
